Hello GCS Parents, Families, and Friends,

We are pleased to invite everyone to our biggest celebration of the year, the Annual Chinese New Year Celebration and Performance, to be held in the cafeteria on Sunday, 1/29.  You are welcome to bring your friends and family.  The more the merrier!

As usual, we will start our celebration with a potluck at 1:00 pm sharp.  This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your family's best recipes and favorite treats. After the lunch, we will have exciting performances by our students.  We will also prepare some small gifts for lucky winners, which include gifts prepared by the GCS Board.  In order to increase the excitement of the prize drawing so that most of the people can get something, your contribution of small wrapped gifts (for any age) are greatly appreciated!

We look forward to seeing all of you at the celebration!

Warm regards,

Susan Lee

Early Bird Registration for Gaithersburg Chinese School Spring 2016-2017 semester runs through January 21!

posted Jan 11, 2017, 5:33 PM by WebMaster Gcs

Dear GCS Parents,

Welcome to a new spring semester at Gaithersburg Chinese School!

To take advantage of Early Bird Registration ($10 registration fee waived), please register in person at Chinese School this Sunday January 15.  Alternatively, you can download and mail in your registration form (attached here and also available for download from our website) and payment, but to qualify for the discount it must be received by Saturday January 21.

I want to remind everyone that we are able to keep the same low tuition rates, due to the extraordinary parents who volunteer and donate to our school.  There are a couple of ways you can help strengthen GCS today and make this semester at memorable for our students.

First, please make a PSA Group Selection (on the registration form) that reflects your background and interests, such as Room Parent, Recreation, General Affairs, or Marketing and Advertisement.  We especially need help getting the word out about GCS over social media and through print newsletters of public schools in the area.

Second, I encourage interested parents to make a voluntary donation to Gaithersburg Chinese School by checking the appropriate box on the registration form and including the donation amount with your tuition payment.

My sincere thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing all of you at Chinese School!

Warm regards,

Susan Lee

Halloween -- Trick-or-Treating Sunday October 30 at 3:50pm in the cafeteria

posted Oct 27, 2016, 5:41 PM by WebMaster Gcs

Dear GCS Families and Friends,

It is almost Halloween!

We are looking forward to a fun and educational Trick-or-Treating event at Chinese school this Sunday!

Students (as well as all "kids" ages 0 to 99) are welcome to come to school in costume, although costumes are optional and all students may participate in Trick-or-Treating.  Teachers will help students learn the Chinese greeting, and there will be helpers at each candy station to remind and support the studens.  As an option, each student may describe her or his costume in Chinese at each station where candy is given out.  Parents or caregivers are encouraged to accompany their child to help out, particularly for the little ones.

Festivities will begin at 3:50pm in the cafeteria.

I am looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!  👻😺🤖

Warm regards,

Susan Lee

Dear GCS Families and Friends,

As a reminder, there are no classes this Sunday, as we are having our annual picnic.  With the weather beginning to clear up, it looks like there will be good weather this Sunday.  When you arrive, please look for the GCS banner, which we will post on one of the picnic shelters.

Please bring your favorite family dish to share.  Also, bring any sports or recreational equipment that you like.

Note to all the soccer moms and dads, soccer balls are especially welcome, since even the little ones can join in.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday!

Warm regards,

Susan Lee

Dear GCS Family Members,

It is wonderful to see all our new and returning students now that the fall semester is in full swing. It's a new opportunity for parents to share our appreciation of Chinese language and culture with our children.  Extracurricular cultural activities have begun as well, from 4:00 to 5:00pm, and we encourage all students to participate.  I’d like to encourage all parents to get involved with the extracurricular activities and join in the fun.  We have begun to plan the fall picnic and Halloween parade, so if you have ideas on what you’d like to see at these events, please don’t hesitate to make suggestions and to get involved with the planning.  It is not too soon to start thinking about Halloween costumes for this year!

As a 100% parent owned and operated non-profit organization, we have always relied on the dedication of parents to keep us running strong.  We need everyone’s participation.  As many of you know, we had quite a number of students graduate last fall, and as a result of graduating families, we have several new volunteer positions open, especially in the areas of Social Media, Marketing, Recreation and General Affairs.  Please let us know of your special skills and areas of interest.  Let’s make this year a memorable one!

As a reminder, this Sunday 9/25 at 2:10pm we will have our New Parents’ Meeting in the cafeteria.  (Returning parents are also welcome to join the meeting.)  On 10/2 we will have our Annual Fall Picnic at Black Hills Regional Park.  Please see the picnic flyer for further details.  We will have one of the picnic shelters, so look for the GCS banner when you arrive.  Please note that we have rescheduled our Annual Parents' Meeting to 10/16 (instead of 10/9 which falls one day before a federal holiday).  Please mark your calendars and save those dates.

Warm regards,

Susan Lee
