各位家長好, 上週六在華府僑教中心,有一場青春導覽員的競賽,華府地區共有六隊參賽,本校派出了四組與會。也正如大多數人所預測,本校得到了三至六名。 僅祝闔家平安 Dear GCS members, Gaithersburg Chinese School has enrolled four teams to participate in the contest of “The Pride of Taiwan” at TECRO last Saturday. There are 6 teams from Greater Washington Area to compete each other. One GCS team won the 3rd place. If we look at the cost-effectiveness of the ranking in the contest, it is not so clever. GCS also received some feedback from parents questioning why GCS students using more difficult web design instead of a PowerPoint to present at the contest. Did GCS not figure out the rules of the competition? We are very conscious of these, which is what I would like to discuss with you. GCS, like other schools, could send a star team to the contest with parent prepared material. I believe that will increase the chance to obtain a good ranking. GCS also will save some registration fees as well as big effort by sending only one team to the competition. Are we really not that smart? A good teacher can inspire a student's potential to lay a good foundation for the future. GCS’s goal is not only to teach gifted students, but also to teach all students who are willing to participate. Luckily, there are a lot of good teachers in GCS. They do believe that the ability of students from their heart, using patience and logic way to help students. They challenge the students’ learning potential and provide necessary guidance that eventually build up student’s confidence. I am proud of student’s presentation as well as teachers’ effort. I take my hat off to Ms. Chiang, Ms. Wang, Dean Kuan, and other enthusiastic parents who made this happen. The competition is over, but our students have learned the skill of Google web design, learned screen video recording, learned public presentations, and built up self-confidence, which will become their lifetime assets. Do you think the contest result is important? Our teachers took extra steps to help any student who is willing to participate in the activity, and inspire them to reach another peak on learning. Do you think the contest result is important? I believe that student learning process is more important than the contest result. Hope you agree with me. Sincerely yours, Vincent Hsing Principal |
