親愛的蓋城家庭成員們，大家好!
天氣已漸漸轉涼了, 希望大家多添衣物, 以免風寒. 有家長提到學校一些教室內的溫度很高。我們曾向ICB（租用QOHS的辦公室）報告要求調整，但被告知一旦學校啟動加熱系統是不能更動的。我們將與現場工作人員再次聯絡. 如果可以做調整。我會和大家報告結果。
這個星期日11/10/13，我們高班A班會有一個校內的數位導覽競賽 : 華人的傳統節慶。 參加的每組學生都有一個自己挑選的節日主題，根據這個主題設計他們的網頁。在這個學習過程中，學生學會上網研究 中國傳統節慶相關活動，書寫中文，並用中文表達他們的成果。同時間，他們也學習了多媒體技能，如建立網站, 上載他們的影片和照片，錄製自己的語音。感謝江東錦老師, 王張瑜老師,教務管主任和許多父母的支持. 這項活動會在學校的餐廳舉行, 請家長們參加,給學生們支持和鼓勵。
我也想與大家分享一個特別的消息。德明中文學校 將於下週日11月17日參觀我們學校和我們的高班B班做交流座談會. 帶隊的是德明創辦人，沉葆老師（也是他們的董事長和教務長）和陳華威校長，和他們的十二年級學生。本次會議的目標不只是建立兩校之間的友誼，最重要的是，我們將討論中文的學習和教學理念，同時兩所學校的學生將分享他們學習的經驗，並展示他們學習中文的成就。我邀請所有的家長們來參加這個座談會。
最後，我想提醒所有的家長們 ，我們一年一度的演講比賽將於11月24日開始。這是幫助學生中文寫作和練習中文表達的機會。我希望家長幫忙學生早一點做準備，使他們有最好的表現! 我鼓勵我們的家長參與所有以上提到的學校活動。您的光臨是我們學校最好的支持。 僅祝闔家平安
蔡慧玲 Dear GCS family members, The cool weather is here, but I hope that you all have warm thoughts about learning Chinese at GCS! Speaking of warm, some parents have mentioned that the temperature inside school is high. We have reported to ICB (the renting office for QOHS) and asked to adjust the temperature before, but were told that once the heating system is on they cannot make changes. We’ll check with the onsite personnel again if anything can be changed. I’ll keep you all informed. This coming Sunday 11/10/13, our High A class has a multimedia presentation contest at school. This is a special project for our high school 9th and 10th graders. The theme is “Chinese Traditional Festivals”. Each group of students will have their research on festivals presented in webpages they designed. In this project, students learned to research Chinese material, write Chinese, and present in Chinese. At the same time, they practiced multimedia skills, such as creating websites with video, photos, and their recorded voice. Thanks to teacher Chiang and many supporting parents who make this project possible. Please come to join us and give these students your support. I also want to share with you some exciting news. Deh-Ming Chinese School is going to visit our school next Sunday 11/17/13 and have a friendly communication meeting with our High B class students (11th and 12th). Deh-Ming is a highly regarded school in the metropolitan area. Their founder, Ms. Shen (also their President and Dean) and their Principal Mr. Chen, will take their 12th grade students to visit our school. The goal of this meeting is not just to establish friendship between the two schools, most importantly we will exchange ideas about Chinese learning and teaching, and students from both schools will share their experiences and present their achievements in learning Chinese. I invite all of our parents to attend this special event. Lastly, I want to remind all parents that we’re going to have our annual speech contest starting on November 24. It is opportunity for students to practice their spoken Chinese. I hope parents will help students at home to plan early so they are well prepared for this event. I encourage our parents’ participation in all these special events. Your presence is the best support for our school.
