親愛的蓋城家庭成員們，大家好! 兩個多月的暑假，似乎一眨眼就過了。希望大家都有一個美好和充實的假日 ，再過一個禮拜，中文學校就要開學了。 非常高興也歡迎所有的成員- 老師, 同學, 家長們一起回到學校! 新學年度的開始，要提醒家長們一些注意事項：
今年新學年的開學日是九月七日星期日，下午兩點整在 Quince Orchard High School 的餐廳，我們會舉行一個簡單的開學典禮，然後正式上課。請同學們準時到校，第一天的課程，將於下午四點結束。請家長們在四點整，準時將同學們帶回。
請家長們勿將您的孩子於一點四十五分前，送到學校教室，因為沒有老師或家長照護。請家長送孩子於兩點前到校，直接至餐廳集合，待上課鈴響，再進入教室。謝謝您的合作。
註冊： 還沒有註冊的家長們， 請在開學當天盡快辦理，註冊單可從學校網站(www.gcs-md.org)下載. 我們在春季班的招生優惠折扣方案（請看附件傳單）會繼續進行。這是家長們得到學費折扣, 同時幫助學校吸引更多的學生 一個很好的機會。請家長介紹有適齡的孩子們的家庭加入蓋城的行列。 上課時間： 從第二週起 (9/14/14)，除了語文課 (2 – 4pm)，四點到五點會有課外活動課。我們鼓勵也希望所有的學生參加課外活動。今年我們也增加武術課給幼班的學生們。不參加課外活動的學生們，請家長通知班級老師，並在4點來接孩子，以確保學生安全。。 新加語文課程： 我們今年新增粵語課，提供說粵語的孩子們一個學習中文的機會。請家長們若是有認識粵語的家庭，請告訴他們這個學習的機會。
學生社區服務學分機會： 華府祭孔大典今年將在9/27日於文化中心舉行，現在還在招生表演佾舞的佾生，有興趣的同學請和我聯絡,，參與的學生在學習期間及表演的當天都可獲得社區服務學分。今年祭孔大典是第十屆，學生還可拿到特別的紀念品.請參考附上的傳單。 食物銷售： 上個學期 我們有一個非常成功的寶島食品銷售的活動，一些家長希望再有這個活動。為了迎合大家的需求，我們決定在開學期間再次推廣寶島食品的銷售。 請家長們填好附上的訂購表格開學時交給財務游昭松. 新加課外課程： 非常謝謝我們蓋城創辦人之一，陳世薇女士 願意在學生上課時間(2-4pm) 特開針織課給有興趣的家長們。陳女士願意貢獻他的時間給蓋城，不收任何學費，家長只需負擔相關材料費用即可。這是一個難得的機會，請要參加的家長們和我直接報名。我希望有足夠的人數可以開班，不然就辜負陳女士開課的美意。。

Dear GCS family members, I hope that everyone in the GCS community had a wonderful summer vacation. Amazingly, the start of a new school year is just a week away, with the first day of school being Sunday, September 7th, 2014! It is my pleasure to officially welcome you and your children back to school!
The start of every school year always brings about changes to routines here at GCS; this year is no different. In order for the school year to begin in a safe and organized manner for all GCS students, it is important to be aware of the following events and procedures:
First Day of School: The 2014 fall semester of Gaithersburg Chinese School will begin on the 7th of September, 2014. Please arrive at school on time; classes start at 2:00 pm. A brief opening ceremony will be held in the Cafeteria from 2:00-2:10 pm. The first day of school will be dismissed at 4:00 pm. For safety reasons, students should not arrive before 1:45 pm because there is no adult supervision available before that time. Upon arrival, the students should proceed to the cafeteria. At 2:00 pm, the children will be dismissed to their classrooms. Registration: Please complete your children’s registration as soon as possible. For students have not registered, registration forms and information can be downloaded from the school web site (www.gcs-md.org). The Board and I also decided that we will continue the new student referral program we had last semester. It is a great opportunity for our parents to receive tuition savings, and at the same time help our school attract more students. I want to remind parents to take advantage of this program and support our school as well. Class Schedule: Beginning 9/14/2014, school starts at 2:00 pm with two language classes (an hour each) and ends with an extracurricular class from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Please let the language teacher know if you don’t want your child(ren) to attend the extracurricular class, and pick up at 4pm.
Chinese Food Sales: We had a successful Chinese food selling event a few months ago, and some parents asked if we could do it again. In order to meet popular demand, we decided to have the Chinese food selling again. Please complete the attached ordering form and send it to Treasurer, Chao Sung Yu.
New Knitting Class: I want to give my thanks to Mrs. Chen, one of our school founders, as she is willing to open a free knitting class to our parents during class time (2-4pm). Participants are only responsible for class material. I appreciate this kind offer and I encourage parents to participate this class so we don’t lose this opportunity. Please register with me directly so I have a head count. We should have decent participants in order to have this class. I look forward to seeing you around the school. It is going to be a great school year.
