親愛的蓋城家庭成員們，大家好!

學校開學了，我很高興看到許多熟悉的面孔，更高興看到新成員加入。 歡迎大家一起到蓋城這個大家庭.  我在簡短的開學典禮中提到，我和管教務主任，和老師們已經在暑期中討論和規劃我們這個學年的文化課，我們將會進行一系列循序漸進的文化教學和活動，讓學生認識的不只是語文還有文化的意義， 同時把樂趣帶進學習當中，我衷心希望我們的學生快快樂樂的來上學，珍惜在學校短短的三個小時，同時吸收所有學校提供的資源,無論是語言或是文化的學習。我相信我們會有一個精彩的新學年！

我們的課外活動將從本星期日（9/14）開始下午4至5時.   今年，我們增加武術課給幼班的小朋友。特別感謝家長顏照晃和學生曹克威對這個活動的支援。  特別提醒家長們，不參加課外活動的學生們，請家長通知班級老師，並在4點來接孩子，以確保學生安全。。

在上封信裡，我提到蓋城創辦人之一，陳世薇女士 願意在學生上課時間(2-4pm) 特開針織課給有興趣的家長們。陳女士願意貢獻他的時間給蓋城，不收任何學費，家長只需負擔相關材料費用即可。希望大家告訴認識的親朋好友這個難得的機會,

以下是一些重要的事項提醒家長們：

新家長會：9/21/2014 14:10這是讓新加入蓋城的新成員，有機會了解學校的運作，及成員的權利與義務。請新家長們務必出席。

全校家長會：9/28/2014 14:10由董事會及校長報告學校的現況及展望，並聽取家長們的建議及回答疑問。希望能見到所有的家長。

Dear GCS family members,

Welcome back!  I was glad to see a lot of familiar faces, as well as new members, on our first day back to school.  As I mentioned in the brief school opening ceremony, Dean Kuan, teachers, and I have discussed and planned a new Chinese culture curriculum for the new school year, and we will incorporate those cultural related activities in our language classes.  We hope that those activities will enhance our students’ knowledge in Chinese culture and most importantly add fun to our classes.  I sincerely hope that our students enjoy their learning of Chinese and appreciate what GCS can offer  them.  I believe that we will have a wonderful new school year!

Our extracurricular activities will start this coming Sunday (9/14) from 4 to 5 pm.   This year we’re going to add Chinese Martial Arts for younger class students.  I want to thank our parent Mr. Chaohuang Yan and student Jeffrey Tsao who will support this activity.   Please let the language teacher know if you don’t want your child(ren) to attend the extracurricular class. In this case, please pick them up at 4pm.

As I mentioned in my last letter,  we will have a new knitting class provided by Mrs. Chen, one of our school founders.  Mrs. Chen is willing to open a free knitting class to our parents during class time (2-4pm). Participants are only responsible for class material.  We need to have a decent numbers of participants in order to have this class.  Please pass this news to your friends since this invitation is not limited to GCS parents only. 

Following are some important reminders for parents:

New Parent Orientation:   On 9/21/2014 at 2:10 pm New Parent Orientation will be held at school. This is for all parents new to GCS and provides information on how GCS operates and GCS families’ rights and obligations.  I hope to see all new parents in attendance at this orientation.  All GCS parents who want to learn more about the school are encouraged to attend this meeting as well.

Parent Meeting:   On 9/28/2014 at 2:10 pm a Parent Meeting will be held in the school cafeteria. GCS board members and the principal will hold a parent meeting to report current progress and the future direction of our school.  We welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions.   We hope to see all parents at this meeting.

Today is Moon Festival. I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you Happy  Moon Festival!
