校長的信 Principal's Letter 08/02/16

Dear GCS Families,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break!

I am excited to tell you about our new initiative for this fall semester.  We are offering Chinese Language Mommy and Me classes, for infants and toddlers, from age 6 months to 3 years.  These will be 45 minute sessions of songs, movement, and games designed to hold the attention of young children.  I am thrilled that Dean Kuan has agreed to design the curriculum and teach two 7 week sessions of Mommy and Me!  In addition, we extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Shaoli Liu, who has also agreed to teach two 7 week sessions!  Scientific studies suggest that language acquisition begins as early as 6 months, and early childhood is an ideal time to begin being exposed to spoken Chinese, both for children from Mandarin-speaking homes and non-Mandarin-speaking homes.

Therefore, I am now asking for volunteers to help us with marketing Mommy and Me, beginning immediately, and continuing over the next few weeks.  Our particular needs are:

1.  A volunteer who is fluent in Chinese, to post our Mommy and Me Flyer (Chinese version) on the social media app, WeChat.  This would involve installing the app on your smartphone, joining WeChat mothers' groups, and posting the flyer.

2.  A volunteer who is fluent in English, to post our Mommy and Me Flyer (English version) on Meetup.com.  This would involve joining Meetup (there is a small fee that GCS will reimburse), creating a group for Gaithersburg Chinese School Mommy and Me, and posting our flyer.

3.  A volunteer who will lead a group effort to print both English and Chinese versions of the flyer, and post them in libraries, coffee shops (such as Panera, etc.), and any high-foot-traffic areas where parents and young children are likely to visit.  We will be asking all GCS families to lend a hand in doing the actual printing & posting in your neighborhood.

Please respond by email or phone.

Many thanks in advance!

Warm regards,

Susan

PS --  A big thank you to all the parents who have already signed up to volunteer.  Since 1974, we have been 100% parent owned and operated, and this way we have kept our tuition very low, just enough to cover our expenses.  We are proud to offer such a valuable service to the community!
